The Bode Museum is home to a rare collection of sculptures from the middle ages to early renaissance. A large collection of Byzantine Art, coins and medals can be found at this popular museum.
From 1997 to 2006 the museum was closed whilst it went under extensive renovations. The Bode Museum on Berlin’s Museum Island has an impressive three-winged museum complex and is located on the northern-most tip of the island, directly alongside the Spree River.
From the river, the museum, which was built in 1904, gives the impression of a gigantic ship above the waterline.
It is the museums Coin Cabinet, "The Münzkabinett", which is the most impressive, it holds approximately 500,000 pieces and is complemented by a gallery specifically for children.
